Society Information
The Golden Gate Tall Ships Society was founded in 1985 as the Sausalito Tall Ships Society as an auxiliary of California's official tall ship, the Californian. Today the Californian is gone as an official state vessel (when placed up for sale by the state it was purchased and donated to the San Diego Maritime Museum) and in 1999 the Society changed its name to the Golden Gate Tall Ships Society as part of its efforts to broadened its mission to help attract Tall Ships from all over the world to the San Francisco Bay area, to support events were tall ships are involved, and to encourage youth sail training on tall ships through scholarship programs.
The Golden Gate Tall Ships Society serves the imagination and aspirations of young people by raising funds to help sponsor their sailing experiences aboard various tall ships where ever youth sailing and training opportunities present them selves.
We provide...
Meetings
The Golden Gate Tall Ships Society holds meetings two or three times a year to conduct business and to present programs to our members which feature topics associated with tall ship activities. For information on the next available meeting check the Events/San Francisco page.
The Society also sponsors a number of sails throughout the years as ships become available through special arrangements. These sails are either free to members (unless they are designated fund raising activities in which case there is usually a member discount) or are offered at reduced prices depending upon the policies of the ship. Again, for information on current activities check the Events/San Francisco page.
Newsletter
Our newsletter, Tall Tales, is published in hard copy several times a year to keep members abreast of tall ship events and activities in the Bay Area. View the current issue of Tall Tales as an Adobe Acrobat file
Our e-Newsletter, also called Tall Tales, is sent to all members with registered e-mail addresses to alert them to upcoming events and special news.
Membership
Membership is open to individuals, families and organizations. The club encourages individuals from throughout the bay area to join and participate. The only requirement is an interest in tall ships.
