1999... San Francisco Gold Rush Sail

In 1999 a number of tall ships visited California as part of the Sesquentenial celebration of the discovery of old in the state. The Golden Gate Tall Ships Society (at the time under the name Sausalito Tall Ships Society) was one of many civic minded groups that helped plan and execute this event. It was probably the largest gathering of sailing ships in these waters in this century.

2000... Marin Bridge the Gap Sail

With the Californian sailing in foreign waters this year the Society looked around for other local Scholarship opportunities. The Bridge the Gap school program in Marine City provided such an opportunity. Through Society funding a number of students who had never heard of Tall Ship sailing much less participated in it got their first taste of the sea.

2001... Lady Washington visits San Francisco

The "Lady" has been a regular visitor to the Bay area for a number of years now. Each time she visits we try to schedule a member sail onboard her to experience the variety of a different ship. The 2001 Sail was the first of these to combine the sail with wine and lunch for the participants and made it a sell out event!

2001... Marin Bridge the Gap Sail

The popularity of this event the year before prompted us to repeat the effort.

If you're going to sail a tall ship you need to know your ropes and knots.

There is always a line to be hauled...

2003... Iriving Johnson Sail to the Farralons

The west coast's newest Tall Ship, the Irving Johnson visited San Francisco in the Spring of '03 on her first sail away from her home port of Los Angeles. Members enjoyed our first foray outside of the bay as the Society sponsored a day sail out to the Farralon Islands.
